The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) Greek Branch and Alba Graduate Business School are pleased to announce the successful completion of the 4th Summer School on “Shipping in Action,” held from June 25 to 28, 2024, in Piraeus and Athens.

The Summer School provided an exceptional educational experience for undergraduate students from Greece and abroad, offering a unique blend of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure through educational visits and lectures by distinguished speakers in the maritime industry.

This year’s intensive educational program featured lectures by prominent industry experts:

  • Mr. Elias Bisias, Lecturer at Alba and Director of “Nautical Chronicles” magazine
  • Cpt. Andreas Georgiou, Director of GREGALE SHIPPING and Lecturer at ICS Greek Branch
  • Cpt. Titos Giannakakis, Lecturer at Alba and executive at DYNAMARINΕ Academy
  • Dr. Alexandros Glykas, Lecturer at Alba and Director of DYNAMARINΕ
  • Mr. Constantine Orphanos, Lecturer at ICS Greek Branch and Director of Sale & Purchase/Projects Oceanus Tankers Ltd.

Participants gained insights into key topics of the maritime industry, with particular emphasis on emerging technologies and the environmental impact of shipping. The curriculum also covered commercial aspects, such as chartering and ship sale and purchase management.

To complement the theoretical sessions, the program included visits to leading shipping companies and facilities. Students visited:

  • Danaos Shipping, one of the largest container ship operators, where they attended corporate presentations and learned about the organizational structure and professional environment.
  • Neda Maritime, where students toured the facilities and were introduced to various aspects of maritime operations.
  • Seaven Management Inc, a ship-owning company with a modern fleet of oil/chemical and cement tankers, offering insights into corporate operations.
  • Spanopoulos Shipyards, where students toured the facilities and were introduced to the various services provided by the shipyard.
