On 21st of October 2021, the ICS Greek Branch organized a field visit at the New Hellenic Shipyards of Spanopoulos Group in Salamis, for the students of the ICS Professional Maritime Programme.

Spanopoulos Group has over fifty years of experience, with international collaborations, a wide range of activities and accumulated know-how make it one of the most remarkable Shipyards in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The students were guided around the Shipyard by the shipyard’s director, Mr Iosif Chatzioannou. He presented the various services offered in the marine and offshore field, he presented the shipyard activities where all types of boats and mega yachts are hosted, offering high level yard services, as rebuilding, refitting, refurbishing and maintenance.

It was a great opportunity for the ICS Students, who also experienced the maintenance of a mega yacht during their visit. They had the chance to combine their already gained commercial knowledge with a more technical-oriented part of the shipping industry, while preparing for the ICS Professional Qualifying Examinations, leading to ICS Membership, the only professional qualification that is internationally recognized as a mark of competence for shipping professionals.

Special thanks to Spanopoulos group and especially to Mr. Iosif Chatzioannou, the shipyard director, for arranging this visit and hosting us at the New Hellenic Shipyards of Spanopoulos Group in Salamis.
