ICS Greek Branch welcomes ISFM Postgraduate Students

On 10th of March, we had the pleasure of hosting postgraduate students from the MSc in International Shipping, Finance and Management from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) for an engaging session focused on Ship Sale & Purchase: How Ships Are Bought and Sold and Why.
Led by Simon Ward, FICS, ICS tutor and S&P Director at Ursa Shipbrokers, the session provided a comprehensive overview of the ship sale and purchase market, covering key areas such as the newbuilding, second-hand and demolition markets, the main stakeholders involved, and the challenges of valuing ships in a highly volatile environment.
The discussion also explored the psychology behind shipping cycles, combined with a practical investment workshop offering students a unique opportunity to connect theory with real-world market behavior.
Sessions like this highlight the importance of bridging academic knowledge with industry practice, equipping students with the insights and critical thinking skills required to navigate the complexities of the global shipping market.
We would like to thank all participants for their active engagement and insightful contributions, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration with Professor M Kavussanos and AUEB.
