ICS Greek Branch and Alba Graduate Business School Successfully Complete the 6th Summer School “Shipping in Action”

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) Greek Branch, in collaboration with Alba Graduate Business School, successfully completed the 6th Summer School “Shipping in Action”, held from 6 to 9 July 2026.
The four-day programme brought together students from Greece and abroad for an immersive learning experience, combining academic lectures, company visits and cultural activities, offering a comprehensive introduction to the world of commercial shipping.
This year’s academic programme featured lectures delivered by distinguished maritime professionals and industry experts. Panagiotis Korakas, Alba Adjunct Lecturer and Executive Director of Isalos.net, opened the programme with a lecture on the evolution and global success of Greek shipping. Dr. Alexandros Glykas, Director of DYNAMARINE Co. and Alba Lecturer, presented the impact of technological innovation and sustainability on modern shipping. Giannis Kazianis MICS, Managing Director of Albatros Management Inc., introduced students to the fundamentals of freight markets and chartering. Simon Ward, Director of Sale & Purchase at Ursa Shipbrokers S.A., delivered an engaging session on Ship Sale & Purchase while Titos Giannakakis, Alba Visiting Lecturer and Executive at the DYNAMARINE Training Academy, concluded the academic programme with an insightful lecture on Shipping Management.
A key highlight of the Summer School was the opportunity to visit some of Greece’s leading shipping organisations. Participants visited Angelicoussis Group Headquarters, Seaven Tanker & Dry Management, IGMAR Group Spanopoulos Shipyard and Danaos Shipping Co., gaining first-hand exposure to different sectors of the maritime industry and experiencing how shipping companies operate in practice.
The ICS Greek Branch and Alba Graduate Business School would like to express their sincere appreciation to all participating companies for their valuable presentations and continued support in helping bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice.
Beyond the academic programme, students also explored Greece’s cultural heritage through a guided visit to the Acropolis and an excursion to the Athens Riviera, creating lasting memories alongside their educational experience.
The continued success of the Summer School reflects the strong partnership between the ICS Greek Branch and Alba Graduate Business School, both recognised leaders in maritime education in Greece. Alba offers specialised postgraduate programmes in shipping, while the ICS Greek Branch delivers internationally recognised professional maritime qualifications through the ICS Professional Maritime Programme, leading to ICS Membership, the globally respected professional qualification for shipping professionals.
The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers Greek Branch and Alba Graduate Business School look forward to welcoming a new cohort of students to the 7th Summer School “Shipping in Action” next year.
