ICS Annual Professional Maritime Programme

Upon completion of the ICS Annual Professional Maritime Programme, candidates have the following examination options:

  • null
    Professional Qualifying Examinations (PQE)

    It comprises 7 examinations (4 compulsory and 3 optional) which you can do over five years and lead to ICS Membership and full qualification.

  • null
    Advanced Diploma (AD)

    Consists of Shipping Business examination plus Economics of Sea Transport or Legal Principles in Shipping Busines or one (1) elective module.

    AD can be elected when the candidates are not able to sit all seven modules in one examination period but wish to take the first step towards ICS Membership.

  • null
    Foundation Diploma (FD)

    Consists of Introduction to Shipping examination plus Economics of Sea Transport or Legal Principles in Shipping Busines or one (1) elective module.

    Foundation Diploma is a standalone qualification which counts towards your membership examinations (PQE).


Candidates with relevant professional or educational qualifications may apply for exemptions from a maximum of three (3) exams, by submitting the Exemption Application Form and the relevant documentation via

Exemption Fees: The exemption fee is 170 pounds per subject.

COVID 19 – May 2020 Examination Mitigation Plan

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers has decided to postpone the May 2020 Examinations to July 2020, due to the ongoing situation with Coronavirus. The deadline for exam registrations has been now extended to 8 June 2020.

Below you may find the revised examination timetable JULY 2020 and the new deadlines.


We have automatically moved your examinations to the corresponding delayed May examination so you do not need to do anything. Your academic examination record will still show May as this is the delayed May examination session.


Important Dates & Deadlines

Final deadline for registration for July 2020 Exams:  8 June 2020

Deadline for deferment, exam centre or subject changes: 8 June 2020
(no further changes or deferments will be allowed after this date)

July 2020 exam week: 6-16 July 2020
